Short version: the tournament app is free and always will be. A club page costs $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year, renews automatically until you cancel, and can be cancelled at any time from your account page. Please do not publish children's full names without permission.
Chess Caddy ("we", "us") provides chess tournament software at chesscaddy.com and through the Chess Caddy apps. By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
The tournament app — running Swiss, round-robin, knockout and Bughouse events, pairings, results, standings, printing, and export — is free, with no account required. Publishing a tournament to a shareable public page is also free.
We intend to keep it that way. We will not take a feature that is free today and put it behind payment later.
A club page is a paid subscription. It gives a club or school a permanent public page with a tournament archive, player profiles, and a club ladder that updates after each event.
| Plan | Price | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $2.99 USD | Charged every month until cancelled |
| Annual | $24.99 USD | Charged every 12 months until cancelled |
If we change our prices, existing subscribers keep the price they signed up at for as long as their subscription remains active and uninterrupted. New prices apply only to new subscriptions. If we ever need to change the price of an existing subscription, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel before then.
If a club page has not worked as described, email support@chesscaddy.com and we will refund you. We would rather refund someone than argue with them. Where local law gives you a statutory right to cancel or to a refund, that right applies in addition to this and is not affected by anything here.
If a payment fails, we keep your club page live until the end of the period you have paid for while the payment is retried. If it is not resolved, the page becomes private — your data is not deleted, and the page comes back when the payment succeeds.
You sign in with a one-time link sent to your email address; there is no password. Keep access to your email address secure, because anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. You must be 18 or over to create an account. One person or organisation may hold an account; do not share sign-in links.
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. That removes your account, your clubs, your ladders and every tournament page you published, and cancels any subscription first. It cannot be undone.
Publishing is always your choice — nothing is uploaded unless you tap Publish. When you publish, you are making a page about the people in your tournament. You are responsible for having the right to do that.
By publishing you confirm that:
We may remove a published page or a named individual from one, without notice, if we receive a credible request from someone affected or if we believe the content breaks these terms or the law.
You keep ownership of everything you enter. By publishing, you give us permission to store it and display it on the pages you asked us to create — nothing more. We do not sell it, use it to train anything, or show it anywhere you did not ask for. Remove the page and that permission ends.
Please do not use Chess Caddy to publish content that is unlawful, abusive, or deliberately false; to store files that are not chess tournaments; to attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service; or to resell it as your own. We may suspend or close an account that does. If we close a paid account for a reason other than a breach of these terms, we will refund the unused part of the period.
The club ladder uses a standard Elo calculation with settings we chose for casual club play. These are club ratings only. They are not USCF, FIDE, ECF or any other federation's ratings, they are not recognised by any federation, and they should not be presented as if they were.
We work to keep the service running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or discontinue parts of it. If we discontinue paid club pages, we will give you at least 30 days' notice, a way to export your data, and a pro-rata refund of the unused period.
The offline app is deliberately built to keep working without us: if our servers were unavailable, or disappeared entirely, you could still run your tournament and export your data.
Chess Caddy is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.
Please keep your own backups. The app's Export button exists for exactly this reason.
We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page with its "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects a paid subscriber, we will email you before it takes effect.
